ARISTOTELION'S SOLEMN APPEAL / ARISTOTELION BEIJIN'S APPEAL 2008

In occasion of the 5th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and the Young Ambassadors of Peace of the First Municipality of Rome, on 12 November 2004
We, the young Ambassadors of Peace, along with the Nobel Laureates, Olympic Athletes and athletes of all sports, men and women of science, art and peace;
Believing that the primary interest for humanity is to promote a culture of peace and non-violence through a permanent dialogue amongst peoples aiming to prevent rather than to cease conflicts;
Convinced that in order to construct a new culture of non-violence for mankind it is necessary to eliminate every sort of discrimination, which is the cause of conflict;
Underlining the current division between the Olympic Games and the Para-lympic Games, and thus the Olympic Flame and the Para-lympic Flame, the Olympic Education and the Para-lympic Education, the Olympic Athletes and the Para-Athletes and, therefore, between persons with different abilities, but nonetheless with equal dignity is an example of an anachronistic division and a dangerous symbol of socio-athletic discrimination;
Considering that the Olympic Games are supposed to unite humanity, the exclusion of the Para-Athletes from the Olympic Games is a disvalue that contrasts with the principles set forth by the Olympic Charter and the Charter of the United Nations;
Contesting the opening proclamation of every Olympic Games which states “…the Olympic Games unite humanity…” and stating that the Olympic Games do exactly the opposite through the discrimination of “normal” and “disabled” athletes;

We ask the International Olympic Committee, the International Para-lympic Committee, and the United Nations:
  • That there be one, united Olympic Family connected by a unique, educational philosophy realizing the Olympic Games for everyone – in three, simultaneous and distinct categories: men, women and disabled - under the same symbols of unity and respect of all athletes as equals among equals, instead of today’s unacceptable misanthropic and anachronistic divisio, which is not Educational at all.
  • That during the unification process of the Olympic Family, the Olympic Sacred Truce as proclaimed through resolutions of the UN General Assembly be extended to the Para-lympic Game period as well.
  • That the Young Ambassadors of Peace get together with the aim of organizing in Ancient Olympia (or ANYWHERE else) the Olympic Games for ALL every two years consisting of some meaningful disciplines in order to allow participation of all athletes: The “normal” (men and women athletes) and those considered ”men and women disable athletes” without any kind of discrimination. The achievement of such a “ utopic ”, noble dream will remind the world leaders that this inevitable reality is an IDEA born in the minds of young men and women willing to make the difference today. Because the Young Olympic Games MUST NOT imitate the adult Olympic Games, product a limited vision and minds used to avoid true education among the today’s young generations. In 776 b.C. Koroivos was the first and only Olympic champion of the first documented Olympiad of ancient Greece, because there was only one athletic discipline: The Stadium ! Women were discriminated from the Olympics for 28 centuries ( “because different” ) and Wisdom finally allowed their entry, occupying the vacant space especially reserved for them. Why repeat this shameful mistake once again, instead of trying to unite the Olympic and Para-lympic Committees into ONE and indivisible noble Olympic Committee ?

Follow: Numerous Young Ambassadors of Peace of Rome, Atri, Selinunte, Thessaloniki, Bratislava,the Nobel of Peace Joseph Rotblat, Betty Williams, Lech Walesa, William De klerk, Rogoberta Mechu, Ximenes Belo, Adolfo Esquivel, Mary Corringan and Rober Kennedy junior, Kerry Kennedy, the Mayor of Hiroshima and President of Mayors of Peace Tadatoshi Akiba, The Olympic medalists Michele Maffei, Daniele Masala and many more have already signed our appeal.
